Venezuela's idiot leader opts out.

Hugo Chavez runs his country by shooting from the hip, so he says! I think he runs it without a brain and with no regard for the people who live there. Today he has decided that Venezuela doesn't need to be a member of the International Monetary Fund so he's going to pull out leaving $21,000,000,000 in debt to international investors which could ultimately collapse the Venezuelan economy. Smart huh? Here's what he's done so far; "This year, he (Chavez) announced the takeover of power utilities, the country's main telecommunications company and huge oil projects. After these nationalisation bombshells, officials showed no clear implementation plan and even Chavez supporters complained about the shock that caused the Caracas stock exchange to lose a fifth of its value in one day. In one telling exchange, Chavez rebuked a minister on live television for failing to implement his decisions more quickly, demanding to know why the telephone company was not yet in state hands. " Written by Guy Taylor of World Politics Watch. My opinion is he'll either be ousted through a coop with asassination for himself and those around him who basically hold the country hostage, or the people of Venezuela led by strong business leaders will find a legal way to remove him with the support of the masses. He's a duely elected candidate (doubtful) that has become a left wing totaltarian dictator filled with himself. MY ADVICE TO ALL AMERICANS - DO NOT BUY GAS AT CITGO!

  1. Chic,
To be sure, the world is full of idiotic, egomaniacs of which Chavez is just another one to come down the pike. Unfortunately, just as with Al Queda, it simply does no good to rant, rave and throw rocks -- giving the guy the attention he is looking for. We can't change him! It's an ideological war he is waging against us just as Al Quada is. What we can do is insist that OUR leaders, the leaders of the free world, provide an example with higher principles.

It is unfortunate that our current leadership in the White House has provided an opening for the likes of Chavez to leverage on the widespread disgust with U.S. foreign policy. A Hugo Chavez is like a canary in the cave, helping us to see if there are dangerous trends taking shape. Are we providing a beacon of light and values to the world that would quickly extinguish the likes of a Chavez? Or does the world stand up and applaud (if even secretly)?

There will always be the Chavez' of the world popping up, but they cause no threat to us as long as we don't allow ourselves to resort to the same game of hatred and intimidation.

Values are caught, not taught. The threat that a superpower like the U.S. faces at this point in history does not come from any direct assault. It comes from unwittingly abetting an enemy with an ideology that is different than ours. As leaders of the free world we must have the courage to take the high ground and not let the end justify the means.

That doesn't mean that I would buy Citgo either, because I won't! But personally I have more disgust with myself than I do him, because by driving around my SUV I contribute to his power. Now there's something I can change!

Sell your SUV and get a Moped - you'll feel better about yourself! So; you would passively allow the nitwit to stay in power if you had a choice? Here's a little secret for you - humans like you and I have been ranting and raving forever. Its called argument and debate. Sharing our thoughts and feelings with each other rather than passively hiding in the closet. It's the American way and gives foundation to our culture and our system of laws.

Changing him may not be our goal, but did you ever think that it may be the goal of the people of Venezuela who contrary to your inference regarding "widespread disgust with U.S. foreign policy" actually like Americans. I think you've been watching too much mainstream media news. And, blaming it on President Bush is the easy liberal way out. America is the shining light of the world - it will be a dark place without it.

Here's a news flash for you; the majority of Americans put President Bush in the White House.
